Prime Video’s Invincible Season 1 was a breath of fresh air, reminding us that great superhero TV doesn’t always have to come from Marvel or DC. Invincible shares some similarities with another popular superhero show, The Boys. Both series offer a more gritty and violent depiction of superheroes, breaking away from the traditional clean-cut image we’re used to seeing.
Season 1 of Invincible follows the story of Mark Grayson, a seemingly ordinary teenager who discovers his true identity as a Viltrumite, a powerful alien race. However, the season took a dark turn when Mark’s father, Nolan, also known as Omni-Man, revealed his true intentions. Instead of protecting Earth, Nolan’s purpose was to prepare it for enslavement by the Viltrumite Empire. This shocking revelation left Mark betrayed and heartbroken as his father turned against him.
As the season concluded, Nolan fled the planet, leaving a void that villains are eager to exploit. The recently released trailer for Invincible Season 2 hints at Mark’s plans to rebuild and how his family, friends, and colleagues will play a role in his journey. Moreover, the trailer offers glimpses of the potential villains who may step into Nolan’s absence, leaving us eagerly anticipating the battles to come.
What To Expect
In the trailer for Invincible Season 2, we catch a glimpse of what’s to come for Mark Grayson, our favorite half-human, half-Viltrumite hero. One of the most intriguing moments in the trailer shows Mark talking to a mysterious person, expressing his desire to get stronger when his father, Nolan, returns. Mark wants to evolve and prepare for the inevitable battle with his kind which is sure to be bloody.
But Mark has more than just Nolan to worry about. He’s been facing off against the likes of Doc Seismic, but other enemies are lurking in the shadows. Titan’s criminal empire poses a significant threat, and the potential return of Battle Beast adds another layer of danger to the mix. Plus, let’s not forget about the Sequids who have taken over Earth’s citadel on Mars, or the Flaxans who are planning an attack from their secret dimension.
Amidst all these challenges, Mark will also have to navigate his personal life and emotions. His mother’s depression weighs heavily on him, and the love triangle between him, Atom Eve, and Amber adds another layer of complexity. Mark may even choose to cut off most of humanity to focus solely on preparing for the upcoming wars. While it’s understandable that he wants to eliminate distractions, the risk of isolation turning him into a bitter version of his father looms overhead.
In Invincible Season 2, we can expect to see Mark facing new villains, dealing with the consequences of his father’s actions, and juggling the delicate balance between his duty as a hero and his relationships. The stakes have never been higher, and we can’t wait to see how Mark rises to the challenges that await him.
More Fights and Betrayals to be Expected
In Invincible Season 1, we witnessed the shocking betrayal of Nolan Grayson, also known as Omni-Man, as he brutally murdered the Guardians of the Globe. This act was a calculated move to weaken Earth and pave the way for its enslavement by the Viltrumite Empire. But that’s not where the betrayals end.
In the trailer for Season 2, we see that the Mauler twins attempted to bring the Immortal back from the dead to seek vengeance against Nolan. Unfortunately, their plan failed. However, a new team of Guardians has risen to stabilize the planet and protect it from further harm.
Yet, the trailer suggests that a civil war is brewing between Mark and the new Guardians team. This conflict echoes the generational divide present in the Invincible comic, where the older heroes clash with the younger generation. Immortal, brought back to life by the Global Defense Agency (GDA), attacks Mark, believing he will follow in his father’s footsteps.
Meanwhile, Samson is determined to bring Mark down, which will divide the crew. However, characters like Robot, Rex, Atom Eve, and Dupli-Kate are likely to side with Mark. This generational divide will be a central theme in Season 2, as we delve deeper into the complexities of heroism and the consequences of our actions.
To make matters even more intense, Cecil and the GDA have the power to upgrade the Guardians, favoring experienced power hitters like Samson and Immortal. The Mauler twins, with their ability to clone using Mark or his father’s blood, are also in Cecil’s employ. Additionally, Cecil has enlisted the help of D.A. Sinclair to create killer robots and possesses a deadly arsenal at his disposal.
