Cyberpunk 2077 fans, the latest patch is finally here, and it comes with some exciting new features. Patch 1.62 introduces a technology preview of Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode for high-end PCs, which is a fully ray-traced, aka path-traced, rendering mode that pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in technology. CD Projekt Red has collaborated with NVIDIA to bring this new feature to the game, and it’s currently recommended on NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 Series (4070-Ti and up) graphics cards, as well as on NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 (1080p, 30 fps).

Since Ray Tracing: Overdrive is a cutting-edge feature that requires the highest-performing hardware available, it’s set to “off” by default. This is because it is very GPU-intensive, and CD Projekt Red wants to ensure that players have the best possible experience while playing the game. The company has also added an option to render path-traced screenshots in Photo Mode for other ray-tracing-capable PC graphics cards with at least 8GB VRAM.

To enable Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode or Path Tracing, players can go to Settings > Graphics > Quick Preset or Settings > Graphics in the Ray Tracing section. To make sure that Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode works correctly on your PC, it’s recommended to update your NVIDIA Game Ready Driver to version 531.41 at a minimum. If your graphics card has more than 8GB VRAM and the option to render path-traced screenshots in Photo Mode is still greyed out, it means that you need to lower your in-game resolution. Note that the higher the resolution and the less powerful the GPU is, the longer it will take to take a screenshot, which can take between a few seconds to several minutes.

CD Projekt Red has called Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode a “Technology Preview,” as it’s a vision of the future that they want to share with players, and they’re committed to continuing working on and improving this feature. While the new feature is not going to be perfect from the start, the company is excited to see how players react to it and hopes that it will enhance the overall gaming experience.

In addition to Ray Tracing: Overdrive Mode, patch 1.62 also includes several other changes, including bug fixes and improvements. Overall, the latest update for Cyberpunk 2077 is a significant step forward in terms of technology and shows CD Projekt Red’s commitment to delivering the best possible gaming experience to its players.
