Red Dead Redemption 2

One thing that may surprise you if you are new to open-world games is the story. Red Dead Redemption 2 had to be on our list, and this game’s story will captivate you from the very start. Set in 1899 at the end of the Wild West era, the world of Red Dead Redemption 2 is filled with bounty hunters, and gangs that are literally fighting for survival. This is one game that comes highly recommended by almost any gamer, so please check out Red Dead Redemption 2 as soon as you can.
God of War

God of War‘s open-world style is a slight departure from what the series is known for, but not to worry as Santa Monica Studio really put together a must-play game for fans. This time Kratos and his son Atreus’ are on a journey that will have you fighting through mini-bosses and enemies in brutal God of War fashion. The story is easy to follow and will have you hooked, especially after your brutal fight with a mysterious stranger with God-like powers. Now I will not spoil this story for you, but let’s just say that I strongly encourage you to check this one out.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is an older title that was released back in 2013, but it will still provide you with a great experience, and the developer CD Projekt Red is currently working on a sequel. So there is no better time to hop into the world of the Witcher 3 and explore. You’ll play as Geralt of Rivia as you search for his lover. Along the way, you’ll encounter monsters, settle disputes, and solve problems that can even alter the environment. The visuals are beautiful and still hold up well even to this day. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is a title that has you playing as a Spartan on an epic journey that will change history. This game is gorgeous, and the combat is fluid, and just like all of Assassin’s Creed games, you can choose to play this title stealthily. This is one open-world experience that you won’t want to put down.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is an open-world title that I still play to this day. In it, you’ll play as Link, who’s been woken up from a deep slumber without his memories. You’ll need to regain your memories and work to take down an ancient evil threat. You’ll meet some trusty companions along the way and unlock cool gear. This game is fun and worth taking your time to explore every little detail on the enormous map.
Grand Theft Auto V

Grand Theft Auto V is a must-play open-world game, and it’s almost the most definitive game of this type that’s playable now. The world is huge, and the online play will give you something to play for a very long time. In fact, this game has been at the top of many popular lists since its debut. So check this one out if you haven’t already.
No Man’s Sky

No Man’s Sky is an open-world game that received a ton of controversy at release, but since then the game has been able to bounce back beautifully. If you’re a fan of space exploration then you’ll love exploring the different alien environments in this game!
Batman: Arkham Knight

Batman: Arkham Knight is one of those definitive Batman titles. Explore Gotham and take down evil villains as the Caped Crusader. The combat and gadgets make you really feel like Batman, and this is all topped off nicely with the gritty detail of Gotham City.
Horizon Forbidden West

Horizon Forbidden West is one of my favorites currently and it’s one I just can’t seem to put down. This game has a ton of story, depth, and action that all blend well to make this game a PlayStation classic. The world is one of the best I’ve ever seen, and it’s almost as if it’s inviting you to explore it.
