Everyone has experienced this feeling at least once, not just with video games, but also with movies, books or another kind of interest; you find something you like, you find out a sequel is coming, you wait a few years for the sequel and it ends up being a total disappointment. On the other hand, some sequels are even better than the originals!

Though there times where video games have gone wrong with their sequels, there are tons of games who did their sequels justice and ended up giving everyone the quality that was expected.

With that being said, here are the top video game sequels that did not fail to deliver (NOT IN ANY PARTICULAR ORDER).

Half-life 2

First up on our list is the sequel to the classic; Half-life. Though half-life is great, half-life 2 is way up there. Many people agree that Half-life 2 is one of, if not the best first-person shooter.

Half-life 2 has won 39 game of the year awards and is also told to arguably be the greatest game of its time.

Even though the game was released long ago in 2004, it is still known and loved worldwide. What sets it apart from other first-person shooters is in its story.

With its great gameplay, plot and graphics, it honestly doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone that Half-life 2 is one of the most engaging and interesting sequels in gaming history.

Team Fortress 2

Team Fortress 2, being released in 2007 on The Orange Box, is one of the few video game series’ that had a more successful sequel than the original. This may seem like a common occurrence, but it’s oddly rare in the history of gaming. Though it doesn’t come as a surprise, as Team Fortress 2 is one of the first of its time.

It has inspired many games such as Monday Night Combat, Dirty Bomb, Loadout, Paladins and Overwatch. Even though Team Fortress 2 only has 9 characters to play with, it is extremely fun to play because of their unique personalities and lively humour.

Overall it has great gameplay, and was truly a one of a kind game.

Assassin’s Creed 2

Assassins Creed is an iconic game series known worldwide. Not only does it have a great storyline and plot, the game design itself is remarkable. The first game was very successful, selling over 140 million copies and becoming one of the best-selling video games of all time.

And though Assassin’s Creed 2 was not as successful, it was certainly more significant than the first. Not only did the storyline improve, but the graphics and gameplay became noticeably different as well. It was released 2 years after the original came out.

Many have said that Assassin’s Creed 2 is perhaps the best game in the series. Not only does it have better gameplay than the original, but it’s longer and much more enjoyable to play.

Resident Evil 4

The Resident Evil series has, by many, been called the greatest video game series of all time. It’s great to play every game in the series and see how they’ve evolved. Every sequel to this classic has been better than its predecessor.

Most people that are fans of the franchise have called Resident Evil 4 the best in the series, and it’s difficult to disagree.

It is the longest game, and has the best atmosphere in the entirety of the series. Being released in 2005, the graphics of the game were also very much ahead of their time.

It has gained lots of good reviews for its narrative, characters and voice acting. Some would even say that it’s the game that first made the third-person perspective renowned.
