Disney’s Donald Duck and Goofy accompany Sora in the new city of Quadratum
Kingdom Hearts celebrated its 20th Anniversary with big news for fans of the franchise! The anniversary event was hosted by Square Enix and Disney in Tokyo, Japan, on April 10th, to commemorate the past 20 years of the beloved series. The fortunate attendees got a live music performance, a showcase of stained-glass artworks and on-stage appearances from Series Director, Tetsuya Nomura, and Series Composer, Yoko Shimomura, among other members from the development team.
“Sora is an original Disney video game hero like no other, beloved by our team, and fans across the world. We’ve been honored to work with Tetsuya Nomura and his team for two decades to introduce these original stories of discovery, courage, and friendship,” said Nana Gadd, Director, of Walt Disney Games. “This glimpse into Sora’s next adventure is just the beginning – we can’t wait to show more when the time is right.”
During the event, the team of Kingdom Hearts gave an update on the highly anticipated final chapter of Kingdom Hearts Dark Road. The finale is being released in August 2022 as a free update on the KINGDOM HEARTS Union X Dark Road app.
The announcement trailer also introduced an upcoming mobile game titled Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link which will soon be available to players on iOS and Android devices. This game will provide players a chance to discover a thrilling and original storyline by engaging in exhilarating battles against the Heartless. Players will be able to complete adventures from the realm of Scala and Caelum into the real world. Fans can look forward to a closed beta test set to take place in 2022.
A glimpse of the new Kingdom Hearts IV screenplay
In addition to this, the development of the next installment Kingdom Hearts IV was also confirmed, though it is probably too soon to hope for a release date yet. Although Square Enix has stated that the game is only in its early development stages, the announcement trailer surprisingly featured a small peek at the upcoming gameplay. The future installment will be featuring a brand new storyline titled the “Lost Master Arc” set in a new and expansive city known as “Quadratum”, where Sora’s beloved Disney companions Donald and Goofy will be making a return, along with an exciting first appearance of the new character addition, Strelitzia.
