I always have a soft spot for new anime watchers. You all have yet to be tainted with many of the biases that are scattered throughout the internet. I don’t say this to be offensive, but to highlight how passionate anime fans can be. The reason that we all are so passionate is these stories, their characters, settings, and animation all captivate us. Anime creators are extremely creative, and their primary focus is on telling a good story
With so many animes, and genres out there you may have a tough time figuring out how to get into anime. I was once in your shoes, I heard many of my friends talk about their favorite anime. At the time all I saw was a bunch of cute characters, and I had no idea why anyone loved it so much. I’m here today to tell you that as a new anime watcher it is just a matter of time before you watch a story that captivates you and literally becomes part of your psyche.
Why Do People Watch Anime
Many people watch anime to simply pass the time, and others, like myself, almost find no other entertainment enjoyable anymore. Anime is popular for many reasons, some popular reasons are storytelling, animation, iconic characters, Japanese culture, and overall themes.
Anime stories are primarily set in Japan, but there are stories that are set in other parts of the globe as well. Where the anime story takes place is important as it helps to set the overall tone of the story. Anime can be set in a futuristic world, the United States, a barren wasteland, or even a unique world the storyteller chooses to create. Some popular anime that have great settings are Hunter x Hunter, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Naruto, Tower of God, Cells at Work, and RWBY.
Where To Watch Anime
Now that you know why many of us like and enjoy anime I’d like to provide some recommendations on where to watch anime. Personally, I do not recommend watching anime on dodgy websites that promise to show you the anime for free and include ads everywhere. You can watch anime on Crunchyroll for free with ads, and they are legit anime sites that provide anime on their site as they air in Japan.
The other site I strongly recommend is Funimation. Funimation is very similar to Crunchyroll in the fact that it provides anime for you to watch. Funimation does require you to pay to use it, but it is very inexpensive at only $5.99/month. You can watch anime without having to worry about your personal information being stolen, or the risk of downloading a potential virus, which is always a good thing.
Anime Recommendations
We are now at my favorite part of this article! Now I can tell you what anime to watch, and the best way for me to recommend anime is to provide you with a few anime that I really love and explain why I love them so much. I promise to avoid story spoilers in my anime explanations.
One Punch Man – If you follow our website at all, then you knew I was going to mention One Punch Man. Currently, this is my favorite anime, and I highly recommended it to brand new anime watchers. In One Punch Man, you follow Saitama, who is a hero that has achieved the highest level of strength in his Universe, but there is only one problem, he’s bored.
In the One Punch Man anime, you’ll follow Saitama as he longs to find an opponent that will give him a challenge. The world of One Punch Man is hilarious and can be very intense at times. This is one anime that I’m sure you’ll want to watch repeatedly.
The Promised Neverland – This anime is recommended quite often, and we’ve reviewed the newest season on this site if you’re interested. The Promised Neverland follows a group of highly intelligent children that grow up on a farm together. The children soon learn that they are the cattle being raised on this farm, and plot their escape throughout the series.
Promised Neverland has a ton of dramatic storytelling elements. This entire anime will keep you in suspense, as you learn more about the world the children live in. I can’t recommend this anime enough!
My Hero Academia – The My Hero Academia anime series has taken the anime world by storm. MHA is a world of heroes and villains. If you want to become a professional hero, you must attend one of the prestigious schools to be properly trained. The story follows Izuku Midoryia on his journey to become the world’s number one hero.
My Hero Academia has epic battles, incredible storytelling, and one of the most lovable casts of characters in any anime. All of the heroes and villains are unique and question different aspects of their world. Be sure to check out My Hero Academia if you have the time.
The Rising of The Shield Hero – Some of the themes in Rising of The Shield Hero are a little more adult so I don’t recommend it for younger viewers, but this anime is very entertaining. Rising of The Shield Hero is what would happen if you were transported into the world of an RPG video game.
Rising of the Shield Hero is an anime that is hilarious, and still maintains its heart. This anime may make you feel bad about running through an open world and giving a hard time to the NPC’s, maybe only a little.
Here are some honorable mentions:
Food Wars
Berserk
Tower of God
Black Clover
Attack on Titan
Jujutsu Kaisen
Tokyo Ghoul
